Only 1 in 6 users of Internet search engines can tell the difference between unbiased search results and paid advertisements
Did you see this Yahoo Article? Who Do You Trust?
A survey found that only 1 web searcher in 6 can tell the difference between a paid ad and an index result in a search engine.
Forty-five percent of Web searchers say they would stop using search engines if they thought they weren't being clear about such payments, yet 92 percent of Web searchers say they are confident about their searching abilities.
My question is WHY? It's almost as if the masses believe that search engines are some sort of consumer report guide that gives them only honest results. As if paid ads are dishonest or something.
I took an informal survey at a party I was at today with about 20 people, ranging in age from 25 to 65. Less than 25% had ever bought anything online. About half had heard of Google.
The game is just getting started...get serious, build every single day, get your real estate up and working for you. There has never been a better time to get building virtual property than right now.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Ouch! My mouse arm is aching. Too much time on the computer I guess. It's minus 30 here with the wind so staying in and building sites is a preferable alternative.
I am still using a crappy old mouse and keyboard. When the weather breaks I may head over to Future Shop to check out wireless keyboards and mice. I guess I could jump on Tiger and get it next day delivered...
I was channel surfing and realized I get about 150 free TV channels all month. One of them, G4TechTV is all about technology and the internet. Facinating to watch...there is a great review show I like called The Screen Savers
My arm is hurting, I better call it a day and rest. The body is amazing...if you listen, it tells you when you're overdoing it.

Spiders, Why Did It Have To Be Spiders?
Remember the Indiana Jones movies when Harrison Ford uttered that famous line about snakes? "Snakes, Why Did It Have To Be Snakes?"
Only in search engine optimizing do we feel the same way about spiders.
An aquaintance of mine swears that 2005 will be the year that some new upstart search engine emerges to make the Top 3 shake and bake. Yahoo, Google and MSN are the big three. Who will be the contender?
When you have a lot of sites, you see a lot of robot spiders.
Who is Exava? Who is Goo? Who is Fava? You can often search google and find out the bots. Goo is from Japan for example, and Fava is a shopping engine starting soon.
The Goo.jp was interesting. It loaded the Japanese character set into IE, and it looks pretty cool. You can search in English and it seems to bring up searches containing your phrase in Japanese....cool stuff. See if your site is listed, search for it in Goo Japan

Everybody Loves A Giant Baby
Did you see the article on Yahoo today about the woman who gave birth to a 17 pound baby?
Good grief.
Of interesting note is the number of web searches for baby stuff. I am seeing a huge growth in traffic as more and more busy stay-at-home moms get web savvy.
There is a profitable niche around here somewhere....sell giant baby clothes on Ebay Auctions perhaps?

Even Body Building Is Going Digital
I bought an Ironman Magazine last week looking for some training routines to start to get back into shape. Hey, January 2005, time to eat right and drop some bodyfat.
One of the best articles talked about X-Rep Training, a fancy advanced technique to up the intensity in the gym. Rather than selling his book via mailorder, the author sold it online!
I checked out his killer site, and bought the ebook for $29. Low and behold, the upsell Weightloss Menu book and my order was a few dollars shy of $50. Embedded in the ebooks were the "backend" sales of supplements. The entire thing is a money machine. (the content is killer too!)
A pro job from start to finish. Only missing an affiliate program and he's got it nailed.
I routinely bookmark examples of fully-functioning product pipelines. There is a lot to learn from other people's examples.
